Project
This project was stage one of the Redwood Group development for the local shopping complex Timaru Mega Centre. For this project, Buchan Group Auckland Studio provided the architectural design, Maven undertook the civil engineering, and Thompson managed the vertical build.
Part 1 of this development was a multi-tenancy shopping complex containing a 2890m² large format retail area and an 810m² food and beverage court including amenities. The shop fronts are decorative using the versatile looks of architectural timber finish precast panels, aggregate footpaths with highlights of bluestone. There is aluminium ultra batten attached to the underside of the food court canopy making use of natural light effectively to create a warm and inviting outdoor space.
The Stage 2 was the construction of the 9688m² Bunnings Warehouse. The building was designed by Buchan Group incorporating Bunnings specifications to align with their standards and branding.
Effective communication between all stakeholders was vital to comply with structural requirements, meet design demands and stay within tight timeframes. Thompson used their proven building methodology to bring this concept to life on target. The characteristic Bunnings entrance area features a 19-tonne precast panel between precast columns.
Our construction team worked on site for the duration of the project, ensuring progression while upholding quality, thereby providing assurance to our client and all subcontractors involved. The completion of this development forms the starting point for an additional shopping experience in South Canterbury.
