Project
Plains Irrigator's have recently taken the step to invest in a smart new business premises on NorthPark Road in the North end Ashburton Business Park.
The building showcases their business success and has some impressive features. A two storied glass fronted office faces out to the road capturing the early morning sun and the red bands on the front exterior of the office literally glow along with the red spouting and barge cap flashings wrapping around the roofline.
Walking into the entrance you are presented with a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) stair case backed by precast panels and fronted with a glass balustrade and a high gloss polished concrete floor at the base together creating a natural palette of rural colours and smart corporate look. When walking up and down the staircase you are lifted into a view of the outside world through the wall of windows filling the front of the building. Just off to the side of the entrance is the reception area handily placed for immediate attention to customers coming through the door.
Throughout the 600m² open plan office and the employee utility area there is a feeling of spaciousness with a 2.7m stud height on both floors and a fun funky atmosphere has been created by the use of bright red and lime green on the joinery, bench tops and carpet, and a bright red fridge too!
Behind the two storied office area is the expansive 2900m² warehouse and workshop area, opening out through roller doors to the covered drive-through canopy which has double bay spacing between the steel legs, i.e. a leg every second bay. Designed to easily manoeuvre larger vehicles in and out and avoid those annoying collisions with the building. Inside the warehouse, tucked away under a mezzanine floor are the tech and parts rooms, ensuring efficient use of every area.
A project like this, utilises all aspects of the Thompson Team, from the conceptual design through to the precast concrete panels that securely wrap around the outside of the build and connect to heavy structural steel columns and beams. With all structural elements being accurately fabricated in their Washdyke base and delivered to site by their in-house logistics team. This is then erected onsite by utilising their own carnage and well trained construction teams to construct within industry renowned timeframes
